Alfred Ochaya

SALVE International
RESILIENCE CHAMPION
Uganda
Alfred Ochaya is a Resilience Champion for S.A.L.V.E. International in Uganda. S.A.L.V.E. International is a UK and Ugandan based charity supporting children to stop living on the streets in Uganda. We do this through support, love, family reunification and education. www.salveinternational.org
Alfred is currently working on “Building with Bamboo”, an international learning project exploring resilience based approaches to working with street-connected children that are exposed to sexual abuse and exploitation. The project aims to use findings from the Oak Foundation’s Bamboo research initiative to find out how we can develop approaches and interventions that support street-connected children to cope in the face of adversity.
Alfred is working on this project with two other Resilience champions representing two partner organisations from the Consortium for Street Children network, these Resilience Champions are Krishna from Cwish in Nepal and Martha from JUCONI in Ecuador.
Before focusing his work on Resilience, Alfred was the Street Outreach manager at S.A.L.V.E International. Alfred has a huge passion for street-connected children and has focused his work on supporting them for the past 7 years.
Alfred is also a Street Invest global trainer due to his love of training others to help them to look at ways they can develop their social work practice. Alfred is a qualified social worker and volunteers in his spare time for the Red Cross in Uganda, doing a variety of health training, including sexual health and healthy life planning skills for young people in the community.
